Wilko Johnson - Don't Let Your Daddy Know (Live)

Année : 1991
Label : Mystic Records MYS CD127

Years after Doctor Feelgood, Wilko Johnson is still bug-eyed and frantic, still keeps the R&B faith, and still ploys pubs like The Cricketers, Kennington, and The Holt Moon, Putney, where this live album was recorded. He really has become a helluva guitar player, punching out rhythm in "Barbed Wire Blues", boogieing like ZZ Top in "Waiting
For The Rain", and fancy picking through "Dr Dupree".

All the songs are his own and, for a supposed good-timer, remarkably twisted up with dark Southend angst. The trouble is, though, that on this distinctly lo-fi recording, Johnson’s singing is rather mufftled and inappropriately reminiscent of John Lydon's atonol wail. But the feeling remains that with a serious investment in studio and production he could come up with something very interesting. **
